The Bourbon Tunnel, constructed in 1853 by architect Errico Alvino under the commission of King Ferdinand II, is a remarkable example of civil engineering. Originally intended as a secure passage connecting the Royal Palace to military barracks, it has served various purposes throughout history, including as an air raid shelter during World War II. Today, it stands as a testament to Naples’ rich underground heritage.
